How to generate a setup sheet in PowerMill

How to setup and export a setup sheet inside PowerMill to aid in the machine setup

Issue

You'd like to send information to the machine operator about how to set up the part inside the machine or other details and information such as toolpaths, tooling, etc.

Answer

Setup sheet templates

  1. In the Explorer, right-click on NC Programs > Setup Sheets > Paths
  2. Turn on or off the templates you desire to output by clicking the Write box
  3. Some testing should be done to see which templates are most important to output; more details are below.
  4. Click Close

Project Snapshot

  1. Rotate your model into a view where the toolpaths can all be seen
  2. In the Explorer, right-click on NC Programs > Setup Sheets > Project Snapshot > Current View
NOTE: You can find advanced screenshot methods inside the individual NC Programs. Right-click on the NC Program > Setups Sheets > Shapshot > Enter Snapshot Mode -OR- NC Program > Setups Sheets > Shapshot > All Toolpaths

Preview the setup sheets

  1. In the Explorer, right-click on NC Programs > Setup Sheets > Preview All
  2. The preview will appear as an HTML page in the PowerMill browser window. Check each section in the PowerMill Setup Sheet Index
You may need to modify your template options or screenshots, and you can repeat the steps above in sections Setup sheet templates to choose different template write outputs and/or Project Snapshot to change the view of your screenshots.

Print the setup sheets

  1. In the Explorer, right-click on NC Programs > Setup Sheets > Print All
  2. You can choose to print the setup sheet as a traveler for the project or print it to PDF and store it with the saved PowerMill project.
You can also choose to create your own customized setup sheets. For more information, contact us using this link and click Connect with us to start the conversation.
